Job Summary

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is on an alternative recruitment drive for new job vacancies in the Facilities Management unit x6 posts.

Closing date: 31 May 2024

Salary package (Range): Salary Package R 969 291 to R 1 193 922 per annum (Band MMS) (all-inclusive e.g. 13th Cheque; Medical Aid; etc.)

SAPS is the national police force of the Republic of South Africa. The SAPS is currently undertaking a special recruitment drive through head hunting to fill six (06) critical vacancies in the professional built
environment that exists within the Component: Facility Management.

Compulsory Generic Requirements

The requirements of the posts are as follows:

  • Be proficient in at least two official languages, of which one must be English
  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Be in possession of at least a valid light motor vehicle driver’s license
  • Must have no previous convictions or pending criminal / departmental or civil cases
  • Must not have tattoo marks which will be visible when wearing any SAPS uniform
  • Applicants will be subjected to a vetting process which will include security screening and fingerprint verification.

Engineer (Electrical): Colonel x2

Requirements:

  • Competency in the post-specific core functions.
  • Four (04) Year BSc/B ENG/B-Tech (Hons) in Electrical Engineering qualification or equivalent qualification (accredited by SAQA on at least a NQF level 7 or higher)
  • Compulsory valid registration as a Professional Engineer (Electrical) at the Engineering Council of South Africa with at least five (5) years’ work experience in the field of the post.

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ proven managerial experience in the field of the post will be an added advantage.
  • Fluency in at least two of the official languages of which one must be English
  • A valid light motor vehicle driver’s licence
  • Skills: Computer literacy, problem solving, project management
  • Competent in CAD “Revit” and any other related software

Core Functions:

  • Manage all mechanical aspects of construction projects, including design, documentation and inspection
  • Brief/liaise with consultants
  • Compile specifications for equipment used in SAPS
  • All Engineering tasks as prescribed by Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)

Engineer (Mechanical): Colonel

Requirements:

  • Competency in the post-specific core functions.
  • Four (04) Year BSc/B ENG/B-Tech (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent qualification (accredited by SAQA on at least a NQF level 7 or higher)
  • Compulsory valid registration as a Professional Engineer (Electrical) at the Engineering Council of South Africa with at least five (5) years’ work experience in the field of the post.

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ proven managerial experience in the field of the post will be an added advantage.
  • Fluency in at least two of the official languages of which one must be English
  • A valid light motor vehicle driver’s licence

Engineer (Structural): Colonel x2

Requirements:

  • Competency in the post-specific core functions.
  • Four (04) Year BSc/B ENG/B-Tech (Hons) in Civil Engineering qualification or equivalent qualification (accredited by SAQA on at least a NQF level 7 or higher)
  • Compulsory valid registration as a Professional Engineer (Electrical) at the Engineering Council of South Africa with at least five (5) years’ work experience in the field of the post.

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ proven managerial experience in the field of the post will be an added advantage.
  • Fluency in at least two of the official languages of which one must be English
  • A valid light motor vehicle driver’s licence
  • Skills: Computer literacy, problem solving, project management
  • Competent in CAD “Revit” and any other related software

Core Functions:

  • Manage all Structural and Civil Engineering aspects of construction projects, including design, documentation and inspection
  • Brief/liaise with consultants
  • Compile specifications for equipment used in SAPS
  • All Engineering tasks as prescribed by Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)

Construction Project Manager: Colonel

Requirements:

  • Competency in the post-specific core functions
  • Four (04) Year B Tech or BSc (Hons) (Relevant to the construction industry) Degree or relevant/equivalent qualification (accredited by SAQA on at least a NQF level 7 or higher)
  • Compulsory valid registration as a professional Construction Project Manager with the South African Council for Project and Construction
  • Management Professions (SACPCMP) with at least five (5) years’ work experience in field of the post.

  • A minimum of three (3) years proven managerial experience in the field of the post will be an advantage.
  • Fluency in at least two if the official languages, of which one must be English
  • Valid light motor vehicle driver’s license
  • Skills: Problem solving, project management, and communication

Core Functions:

  • Appointing and managing a professional construction team, from pre-construction to the completions and final handover of the project.
  • Managing the professional construction team, including main contractors, electrical engineers, quantity surveyors, structural engineers, land surveyors, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, civil contractors, town planner, geo technical engineers, fire engineers, architects.
  • Managing the programming and cash flow projections, viability analysis, complete costing analysis and developers’ budget

  • Facilitating the sales function with site requirements.
  • Facilitating the final inspection along with the final handover to the project client.
  • Negotiation and calculating of the interim payment valuations between the developer, the financial institution and the contractor.
  • Mediation, arbitration and dispute resolution, where required, between the respective contracted parties
