Applications are now open for the 2025 Economist Internship Programme at the Bureau for Economic Research (BER) at Stellenbosch University.

The programme is in conjunction with the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).
Programme Purpose
The primary objective of the programme is to provide practical training to appropriately qualified graduates so that they can function as economists in the private and/or public sector.
The successful candidate(s) will work alongside BER economists for a year to gain experience in all aspects of business-orientated macroeconomic analysis.
Selection Criteria
Candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Hold an Honours or Masters degree in Economics (by January 2025) with macro-economics as a subject at post-graduate level
- Be fluent in English
- Possess excellent communication and writing skills
Employment with SARB
The successful candidate(s) will be full-time employed by the SARB and will spend their first year in training at the BER in Stellenbosch (from January 2025 to December 2025). Candidates will receive a competitive salary during the training year.
