INTERNSHIP RESEARCH & DATA ANALYTICS (2 POSTS)
6 Months contract
Start date: 01 July 2024 – 31 December 2024

Mindful of the prevailing socio-economic conditions in South Africa, and in support of the national transformation agenda, Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) would like to provide internships to deserving young unemployed citizens.
In this way, SMU hopes to provide experience to young South Africans, and give them the opportunity to be employable and to compete in the job market.
The incumbents will be exposed to gaining experiential learning in the field of Research and Data Analytics and they must meet the requirements and competencies, and be responsible for the key performance areas listed below:
REQUIREMENTS
- Honors degree majoring in Computer Science with data science/ Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence/ Computer Science & Mathematics or Statistics/ Data Science / Data Analytics / Business Intelligence
- Master’s and PhD will be an added advantage
- Knowledge of programming languages and frameworks such as Python/R, .Net, and SQL
- Knowledge of data analysis, modelling and data visualization
- Knowledge of Business Intelligence tools
- Knowledge of Database Management
- Experience in reporting and administration work
- Must be computer literate: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access/Database, Internet, e-mail
- Competency assessment will be conducted

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Provide high-quality data analytics support for the SMU Siyaphumelela project.
- Plan and implement research projects, ensuring timely and efficient execution.
- Conduct data collection and validation to ensure accuracy and reliability of data.
- Develop data visualization dashboards to effectively communicate research findings.
- Select and apply appropriate statistical methods for data analysis.
- Advise on optimal data collection methodologies to enhance data quality.
- Compile comprehensive research reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
- Utilize machine learning techniques and predictive analytics to support advanced data analysis
