KZN Sands mineral sands operation is situated at Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal. The operation, which employs about 700 people, consists of Fairbreeze Mine near Richards Bay, and the Central Processing Complex in Empangeni.

About the Vacation Work Programme

Tronox KZN Sands are inviting applications for Vacation Work students at our operations located in Empangeni and Mtunzini, KwaZulu- Natal (South African Citizens Only).

Primary purpose:
To provide students with an opportunity to obtain practical work experience (vacation work) related to their field of studies.

These are temporary positions for a period of 2-months from December 2024 to January 2025.

Qualifications

We are looking for dynamic and self-motivated individuals with the necessary ability and intention to enter a Vacation Work programme for the following disciplines:

  • Electrical Engineering (Light Current)
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering (Mineral Processing)
  • Mining Surveying
  • Occupational Health and Safety

Who can apply?
Students who:

  • In terms of their curriculum, must do vacation work in order to comply with course requirement to graduate (Proof of such requirement should be provided upon application).
  • Are currently in their 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of studies.

NOTE: Preference will be given to applicants from the following Tribal Councils/Municipalities:
Tribal Council:

  • Kwa Dube Area [Inkosi Dube]
  • Kwa Nzunza Area [Inkosi Nzunza]
  • Kwa Mkhwanazi [Inkosi Mkhwanazi]
  • Ogagwini [Inkosi Zulu]
  • Somopho [Inkosi Mthembu]
  • Macambini [Inkosi Mathaba]
  • Madlebe [Inkosi Zungu]

Municipalities:

  • Umhlathuze Municipality
  • Umlalazi municipality
  • Mandeni municipality

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Proof of Registration
  • History of academic results e.g. a 4th year student should send from 1st year to June of the 4th year.
  • Stamped letter from university specifying the requirements for the vacation work program.
  • Proof of Residence from Tribal Council (TC)

NOTE:

  • Applications received without the supporting documents and/or after the closing date will not be considered.
  • Any Candidate currently/previously registered with any SETA for any learning programme will not be considered.
  • Pre-Screening evaluation will form part of the selection process.

  • Successful applicants will be required to undergo a medical assessment.
  • Psychometric evaluations may form part of the selection process.
  • Appointments will be made in accordance with the Tronox Employment Equity Policy. Females and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
