About the Internship Programme
The University of Pretoria Faculty of Veterinary Science is offering an opportunity for qualified Animal Health Technician or Animal scientist or Agricultural economist to gain advanced experience in livestock health and production aspects.
This is a one-year structured, non-degree programme resident (i.e. the post is limited for the development of a community member).

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:
- Provide support to the qualified veterinarian responsible during the training of small-scale farmers in the Ottosdal, Potchefstroom or Sekhukhune/Mashishing areas.
- Provide technical veterinary related support to the trained farmers in the identified areas;
- Collect appropriate data, capture such data and participate in the analysis of such data;
- Liaise with the local government officials (Animal Health Technicians, State Veterinarian,
- Extension officers, Auctioneers, other industry members, etc.) on animal health and production aspects; and
- Participate in an intern mentorship programme and enter into performance agreement.
Qualifications
- Diploma/BSc Animal Health or BSc Animal Science or BSc Agric Economics;
- Acknowledged technical expertise; and
- Adequate subject knowledge necessary for the post.
- Be a resident of one of the identified villages in Ottosdal, Potchefstroom or Sekhukhune/ Mashishing.
Skills and Competencies
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Appropriate local language and communication skills;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Good computer skills (Windows, MS Office, internet); and After-hours availability.
