The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is looking for a dedicated individual to join their team under the direct supervision of the Deputy Shipping and Customs Supervisor.
Job Purpose
As a Shipment Clerk, you’ll be coordinating GSO Shipping and Customs paperwork, updating databases daily, collecting funding/fiscal data for Government-Owned Vehicles, managing vehicle registrations, and assisting with VAT refund claims for departing diplomats.
Key Responsibilities
Working under the direct supervision of the Deputy Shipping and Customs supervisor, the shipping clerk coordinates GSO Shipping and Custom’s paperwork addressed to government administrative offices and updates various databases daily.
- Collects funding/fiscal data for Government-Owned Vehicles.
- Manages payment for vehicle registrations, ordering vehicle tags and roadworthy certificates and annual licenses renewals.
- Applies for Letters of Authority for imported vehicles.
- Assists and completes the filing process with VAT refund claims for departing diplomats.
- Provides office support to the section.
Qualifications
- Completion of secondary school (grade 12) is required.
- Minimum of two years of work experience in shipping or vehicle fleet administration related field is required.
Skills and Knowledge
- Fluent in English – Speaking/Reading/Writing is required. (This will be tested).
- Knowledge of local government customs and shipping procedures as well as vehicle import/export, registration, licensing is required.
- Accurate typing speed (40 wpm), excellent computer skills on Microsoft Word, Access and Excel for data base capturing and management, ability to prioritize workload effectively with minimal supervision, excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must hold a valid code 8 driver’s license. (Driving test will be conducted).
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, and familiarity in the use of Microsoft Excel is required.
