Assistant Engineer

POSITION:Assistant Engineer-Business Partners  
JOB GRADING:D-Lower
DEPARTMENT:Engineering TMM
SITE:South Deep Gold Mine

The Assistant Engineer-Business Partners is accountable for the oversight and management of effective operational safety, scope execution and quality of Business Partner delivery within the Engineering Trackless department. 

In collaboration with Trackless leadership and Business Partner site management, the role assumes accountability for ensuring the continuous improvement and sustainability of safe and effective Business Partner performance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent with an NQF5 level certification
  • Relevant Engineering diploma/degree
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a trackless mining environment, of which at least 2 years in a supervisory role

  • Proven track record in managing projects and Business Partners
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Officer – Training & Development

POSITION:Officer ETD: Mining Technical Training
JOB GRADING:C-Lower
DEPARTMENT:Human Resources – Training and Development
SITE:South Deep Gold Mine

The Officer ETD: Mining Technical Training is responsible for delivering and maintaining technical mining training per organisational and SETA standards.

This includes training, assessing, coaching, and developing employees to meet quality and quantity benchmarks. Additionally, the role involves monitoring training interventions and compiling progress reports.

Through collaborative programme design and delivery, these efforts aim to elevate South Deep HRD to world-class standards, ensuring long-term value for employees, communities, stakeholders and shareholders.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Blasting Certificate
  • Accredited Assessor / Moderator certifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a training within a mining environment, specialising in Mining Training
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of MS Office
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Supervisor Engineering

POSITION:Supervisor Engineering
JOB GRADING:C – Upper
DEPARTMENT:Engineering – Reliability
SITE:South Deep Gold Mine

The Supervisor Engineering will be responsible for pre, and post inspection and oversight of components and spares selected for reconditioning, refurbishment and/or repairs to ensure compliance with required quality standards and specifications.

The incumbent will oversee the entire lifecycle of reconditioned units which includes inspection and testing from dispatch to final delivery.

A core accountability of the incumbent is to apply quality assurance and quality control expertise, while maintaining the integrity and reliability of reconditioned spares and collaborating with operational teams in processing warranty claims.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or Equivalent
  • Relevant Trade Certificate
  • Drivers’ licence with no restrictions
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an artisan in a Trackless environment

  • Minimum 2 years’ supervisory experience within a mining or engineering environment
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Superintendent ETD

POSITION:Superintendent ETD: Mining Technical Training  
JOB GRADING:D-Lower
DEPARTMENT:Human Resources – Training and Development
SITE:South Deep Gold Mine

The Superintendent ETD: Mining Technical Training is accountable for determining current and future operational compliance and proficiency-enhancing mechanised mining technical training needs. 

Further, to lead and co-design integrated, blended learning capability development programmes incorporating instruction, virtual and augmented reality learning curricula. 

The incumbent should draw from an accomplished track record comprising operational safety, mining technical delivery and human resource development expertise to oversee, facilitate and assess end-to-end and optimised learner experiences. 

These collaborative programmes aim to elevate South Deep HRD to world-class standards, ensuring long-term value for employees, communities, stakeholders and shareholders.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • National Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Development, Education and Training or related disciplines
  • Blasting Certificate
  • Mine Overseers Certificate of Competency
  • Assessor and Moderator Certified

  • Proven track record in developing training needs analyses with associated facilitation and development material design
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience at junior management level in a mechanised underground mining environment
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Trackless Boilermaker

Closing Date: 07 October 2024

POSITION:Underground Boilermaker
JOB GRADING:C-Lower
DEPARTMENT:Engineering – Rebuild
SITE:South Deep Gold Mine

The Boilermaker is responsible to perform maintenance, repairs, strip and assemble of Trackless Machines, construction, and fabrication of all steel structural work on underground, in accordance with operating and safety standards and procedures to ensure the availability of engineering equipment.

The core accountability of the role is to maintain the highest possible standards in the area of operation and influence.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Recognised Trade Test
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Boilermaker in maintenance, construction and rebuild of trackless machinery

  • Proven experience in repair, rebuild, machine fabrication of parts and construction work underground
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment
