The CSIR has an Internship opportunity for Real Time Information Management Systems (RTIMS) in the Mandela Mining Precinct, which is hosted within the CSIR Business Excellence and Integration portfolio. 

Job Purpose

The purpose of this internship is to provide graduates with an opportunity to gain practical work experience through research and development of competitive technologies and innovative products under the guidance of researchers and engineers within cross-functional teams. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on Real Time Information Management Systems (RTIMS) related topics related to mining environments as aligned to the programme;
  • Undertake studies on identified RTIMS techniques and technologies at various mine sites, or places of business;
  • Engage with suppliers, manufacturers, collaborator partners and research partners of RTIMS technologies at various places of business;

  • Write reports, and report on processes and results;
  • Establish Enterprise Architecture model content
  • Attend and present on results and progress where required;
  • Perform general administrative tasks as required by project leads/programme managers;

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in the field such as Data Science/Information Science, or Data Management /Information Management or Systems Engineering / Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and methodologies, including requirements analysis, design, development, integration, and testing.

Skills and Experience

  • Analytical, numerical, methodical, innovative, and results driven;
  • Willingness to learn, be adaptable, and work under pressure;
  • Administrative skills (minutes taking, filing, reporting and research);
  • Pro-active and focused;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

  • Good attention to details;
  • Good communication skills, work effectively in teams and collaborate with experts from various fields
  • Relevant mining domain knowledge will be an added advantage
  • Ability to prioritise and have a good sense of urgency and accuracy;
  • Must have a valid Drivers Licence;
  • Must have clear/no criminal record;
  • All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
