About The Bursary
The bursary scheme forms part of Astron Energy’s commitment to skills development, meaningful socio-economic transformation, and the country’s broader development agenda.
The sponsorship is a full-cost bursary that covers the following:
- Full bursaries to attend ANY registered higher education institution
- Tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation,
- Food and monthly allowances, On-going psycho-social support provided by Excel@Uni.
- Light-touch mentorship for developing essential skills imperative for personal and professional growth.
- On-going psycho-social support
- Light-touch mentorship for developing essential skills imperative for personal and professional growth.
- Work Readiness Programme
- Academic Support in the form of private tutoring
The goal is to fund students in the following streams:
- Data Analysis / IT Stream Degrees: Mathematical Science, Computer Science / Computer & Information Science, Information Systems / Information Technology, Big Data Analytics
- Environmental Stream Degrees: Environmental Studies / Environment Society and Sustainability , Sustainability, Climate Change & Sustainable Development, Environmental Science.
- Engineering Stream Degrees: Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering [Must be BSc or BEng, NOT BEng Tech]
- Finance Stream Degrees: Finance, Accounting, Financial Modeling, Internal Audit, Economics / Economic Analysis of Financial Markets ,Management Science. [Commerce degrees preferred]
- Commerce Stream Degrees: Project Management, Business Administration, Property Studies, Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management, Digital Marketing, Human Resources Management [BCom preferred].
- Masters in Industrial Psychology.
- Science Stream Degrees: Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Natural Sciences (with Mathematics). [BSc Only].
- OBLIGATIONS: You are obligated to work-back for every year of funding provided by the bursary, otherwise you may have to refund the value of the bursary benefits recieved (plus interest charges.
- Any applicant or awardee later revealed to not be studying full-time or having paid employment; will have their bursary contract/offer terminated and required to refund all benefits paid to them by the bursary.
- If you have not heard back from us by 31 January 2025, please consider your application unsuccessfull.
Who Can Apply
- Applicants must be under 35 years of age.
- Applicants must be South African citizens.
- Applicants must be pursuing a FULL-TIME qualification (Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Degree, Masters, Etc)
- Applicants must be pursuing their qualification-level for the first time (ie, not repeating a degree, honours, etc)
- Applicants must be pursuing a qualification or intending to pursue a qualification at any tertiary institution registered with DHET and SAQA. (This includes private/community colleges and TVETS)
- Average academic performance for the last full academic year must be 70% or higher
Be studying in one of these streams:

- A 1-2 page statement – Motivation for why you should be selected for this bursary
- Recent certified Parents/Guardian SA ID or Death Certificate (or death certificate if deceased) [*]
- A comprehensive CV of work experience and background
- Certified Full Tertiary Academic Records (for all years of tertiary study, even if at multiple institutions) [*] [or police affidavit stating why the student wasn’t schooling]
- Certified copy of latest/June 2024 Official Academic Transcripts (or official institution report) [or police affidavit stating why the student wasn’t schooling]
- Certified copy of valid matric certificate (Grade 12)
- 2024 Official University Fee Statements- If you have off-campus accommodation, please include your lease agreement [*]
- Certified Copy of 2024 Proof of Registration (if studying in 2024) [or police affidavit stating why the student wasn’t schooling]
- Certified Grade 11 Report final year-end report (with official school stamp)
- Certified Grade 12 Term 2 Report (with official school stamp)
- A copy of 2025 acceptance letter from an accredited institution. – Official letter showing you’ve been accepted (even provisionally) to study the qualification in 2025 [*]
- Certified copy of valid matric certificate (Grade 12)
- IF APPLICABLE- Certified copy of the latest Official academic transcript/s [*] [or police affidavit stating why you were not schooling]
- IF APPLICABLE- Did you get funded by another bursary/NSFAS?; upload your bursary agreement/letter/offer [*]
- IF APPLICABLE- If Applicant is disabled? Submit Dept. of Labour Employment Equity Act (EEA1) Form AND a Doctors’ Letter [*]
- IF APPLICABLE- A copy of 2025 acceptance letter from an accredited institution. – Official letter showing you’ve been accepted (even provisionally) to study the qualification in 2025 [*]
- Certified copy of valid matric certificate (Grade 12)
- 2025 Proof of Registration at the institution (NB: The bursary will only be awarded after you have registered, so please make sure you have the funds to register at the beginning of the year. This will be 1 of the conditions of your provisional acceptance)
For applicants under the age of 18, to comply with POPI regulations a signed consent form completed by your parent/legal guardian along with a certified copy of their proof of identity is required.
