Qualifications

• 1-3 years experience for external candidates
• Train Driver Assistant Certificate
• Surface Railways Rule Book
• Grade 10

Requirements

• 18 Years or older
• Clear security screening record.
• Medically fit to work in the specific business area.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs any other activity necessary for the effective completion of his/her work.
• Applying emergency brakes of the locomotive in the event that the Train Driver becomes incapacitated
• Loading and discharge of hoppers
• Setting of rail switches
• Shunting of rolling stock
• Safety inspection of the locomotive and rolling stock
• Keep locomotive cab clean and tidy

• Inform the Surface Train Driver when safe movement can proceed
• At the start of the shift assist the Train Driver to complete the locomotive checklist, e.g., tests brakes, warning device, electrical connections, emergency stops, coupling attachments
• Improve our position on global industry cost curve Support the achievement of the mines plan through the effective haulage of the ore from the various shafts to the concentrators or offloading facilities

• Focus on safety and health as well as operational excellence
• Comply with requirements of the Quality Management System. Focus on safe production & operational excellence
• Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures. Quality Management System (QMS):
• Attend safety meetings.
• Maintain and comply with SHE standards within the work environment.
