About the SIOC-CDT
The SIOC-CDT was established in 2006 by Kumba Iron Ore Limited to invest in the development of the communities in which the company operates.
The Trust focuses primarily on beneficiary communities adjacent to the Sishen Iron Ore Company’s (SIOC) mining activities in the Northern Cape and Limpopo and has invested significantly in community development projects aimed at ensuring sustainability beyond mining operations.

Programme Requirements
The programme will see 50 learners receive technical skills training in the following trades:
Auto Electrical
Heavy Equipment Mechanic (HEM)
Fitter
Fitter and Turner
Rigger
Welder
Instrument Mechanician
Boilermaker
Electrician
Entry Requirements
- A minimum of a Grade 12 Qualification with English, Mathematics and Science, or applicable trade theory and an additional trade-related technical subject would be advantageous (N2 Engineering Qualification).
- The programme will run concurrently for 36 months.
- Youth between the ages of 18 – 35.
Or you can apply for Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL):
All candidates seeking access to a trade test / External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) through Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning must have:
- Completed a standardized official application form provided in the ARPL toolkit for the specific trade applied for.
- Have accumulated at least three (3) years of relevant verifiable work experience for a particular trade.
- The minimum years of work experience may be accumulated from various traceable employers or service provided to customers in the relevant trade.
- The minimum age for a person to register for ARPL is nineteen (19).

Certified by a Commissioner of Oaths and not older than three (3) months.
- Clear original certified copy of ID (Identity Document).
- Clear original certified of highest educational qualification.
- Original or certified copy of original service letter on a company letterhead as proof of experience within South Africa with detailed daily duties, start date, and signed off by a duly authorized person within the company. The company registration number must appear on the letterhead.
- Documentary proof showing that the applicant is legally in South Africa with no medical exclusions (if applicable).
