Position Purpose

The primary aim of this apprenticeship program is to cultivate a highly skilled workforce that supports the growth of Transnet’s business.

This initiative is designed to enhance productivity, profitability, and ultimately, the employer’s bottom line.

As part of Transnet’s Human Capital Development Strategy, the Transnet Academy provides an extensive apprenticeship training program for learners in various fields and locations.

Position Outputs

  • Installation of machinery in workshops.
  • Repair and maintenance of buildings and machinery.
  • Mechanical fault finding and repairs on electrohydraulic and motorised equipment.
  • Conducting preventative maintenance (PM) and reporting on defects.
  • Mechanical overhauls, modifications, and upgrades of machines and equipment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • NTC2: Completion of 4 relevant trade subjects (all passed)
    OR
  • Technical National Certificate Vocational Level 4: Completion of 7 subjects (all passed)
    OR
  • Technical Matric Certificate: Including passed Pure Mathematics and Physical Science with relevant trade theory.
    All subjects must be passed with a minimum score of 50%.

Applicant Requirements

  • Applicants must be South African citizens with no existing bursary obligations to other organizations.
  • Preference will be given to applicants regarded as South African Youth (aged under 35).
  • Preference will also be given to candidates with outstanding academic achievements.
  • Selection will be conducted in accordance with the Company’s Employment Equity Plan and Recruitment and Selection Policy.

Training Details

  • All training will take place at the relevant Transnet Faculty of Engineering Campus.
  • Completion of the apprenticeship does not guarantee permanent employment within Transnet; it is strictly a training and development opportunity.
  • Please note that no accommodation or transport assistance will be provided at any stage of the apprenticeship.
