Learnership Description

The Plant/Mining Learnership Programme at Sishen Mine aims to equip unemployed South African youth with essential skills for the mining industry through a structured two-year program.

Participants will gain valuable hands-on and theoretical learning experiences in mining operations and processing techniques.

Key Responsibilities

• Safety, Health, and Environment:
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations during training and work assignments.
  • Maintain a clean and organised workspace.
  • Actively engage in safety meetings and risk assessments.
• Performance and Delivery:
  • Attend theoretical and practical training sessions.
  • Under supervision, perform tasks in plant/mining operations, including machinery operation and maintenance.
  • Assist in monitoring equipment and troubleshooting minor issues.
  • Work collaboratively to meet training and production targets.
  • Record and maintain training progress and documentation.
• Community Engagement:
  • Act as a representative of the organisation in local communities.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates must be between 18 and 35 years old.
• Must be unemployed and not enrolled in any educational programs.
• Preference will be given to applicants from designated groups and those from the JTG District and other labour-sending areas in the Northern Cape.

Qualifications Required

• Educational: Grade 12/N3 Technical or equivalent.
• Identification: South African citizen with a valid ID document.
• Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required.
• Technical Knowledge:
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions, perform basic calculations, and understand workplace safety.
  • Basic awareness of mining or plant environments and environmental impact minimisation.
