Role Overview: General Worker

Purpose of the Job:
The General Worker will provide essential support to the Maintenance and Directional Drilling Teams, assisting with equipment maintenance, welding tasks, and operational reliability.

This role requires adherence to safety procedures and efficiency in utilizing available resources to enhance equipment stability and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform welding on mining equipment using flux core and other welding processes.
  • Ensure the safe operation of welding equipment.
  • Cut materials and pre-heat them using oxy-fuel gas cutting equipment while adhering to gas safety rules.
  • Assist in the operation of overhead cranes and lifting equipment following safe working procedures.

  • Accurately complete job-specific tasks and checklists.
  • Conduct visual inspections of the work environment to ensure safety standards are upheld, reporting any unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Apply specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Codes of Practice (COPs) to maintain housekeeping standards.

  • Collaborate effectively within a team to achieve collective goals and meet deadlines.
  • Participate in daily morning meetings to discuss work assignments and progress.
  • Identify and report abnormal conditions and costs saving opportunities.
  • Assist artisans with their daily tasks as needed.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12/N3/NCV Level 4 or Equivalent (Math & Science – Advantageous)
  • Driver’s License (Minimum Code 08)
  • Ability to obtain a Medical Certificate of Fitness
  • First Aid Certificate (Desired)

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Minimum of 12 months of welding experience.
  • Proficiency in using an angle grinder and cutting torch safely.
  • Knowledge of underground machinery (e.g., Shuttle Car, Roof bolter, Crushers, Feeder/Feeder breaker).
  • 12 months of plant experience (Desired).
  • Experience with MIG welding equipment (Desired).

Functional/Technical Skills:

  • Understanding of safety procedures, emergency preparedness, and compliance with the Mine Health & Safety Act and OSHA.
  • Ability to interpret written information and work instructions.
