Position Overview

Sasol is recruiting Fire Fighters in Training (Maintenance) to join its Emergency Management team in Secunda.

The role is responsible for helping protect company assets and operations from SHERQ-related emergency incidents, while participating in structured training programs to develop operational firefighting skills.

Appointments may be made from Fire Fighter in Training up to Leading Fire Fighter, depending on qualifications, experience, and Sasol’s Emergency Management career framework.

Key Responsibilities

Emergency Management Operations

  • Respond to emergency situations and incidents according to established procedures.
  • Apply Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality (SHERQ) best practices during emergency management activities.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders during incident response.

Training and Professional Development

  • Participate in continuous training programs to maintain mental and physical readiness for emergencies.
  • Engage in Performance Development Plan (PDP) and Key Performance Area (KPA) discussions.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Service and maintain portable firefighting equipment across plants and buildings.
  • Conduct reconditioning of firefighting and life-support equipment.

Safety and Operational Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve emergency response systems and maintenance activities.
  • Provide recommendations to enhance safety performance and service delivery.
  • Participate in housekeeping and safety improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics or an equivalent qualification.
  • Must be medically fit according to relevant firefighter fitness assessments.

Preferred Certifications (Advantage)

  • Fire Fighter 1 & 2 (NFPA 1001)
  • HPCSA Registered BAA (BLS) or First Aid Level 3
  • HPCSA Registered Intermediate Life Support (ILS)
  • Hazmat Awareness and Operations (NFPA 1072 / 472)

Experience Requirements

  • 0 – 5 years of relevant experience in firefighting, emergency response, or related fields.
  • Candidates will be placed in an appropriate rank level based on their experience and certifications in accordance with Sasol’s Emergency Management career path.
