Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is currently seeking an experienced Cashier for its East London, Berea Pharmacy store. The successful candidate will provide excellent customer service at the point of sale while ensuring a smooth and accurate checkout process.
The role involves recording customer transactions using the Dis-Chem operating system, following company policies and standard operating procedures to ensure accuracy, security, and a world-class shopping experience.
Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- Minimum 6 months experience in cashier or till operations
- Computer literate (MS Office)
- Sound numerical and calculation skills
- Strong command of the English language (written and spoken)
- Basic customer service skills
- Willing and able to work retail hours
Advantageous
- Ability to speak a third additional language
Special Conditions of Employment
- Must be willing and able to work retail hours
- Reliable transport or residence close to the store
- Must be a South African citizen
- Clear credit and criminal record
Key Responsibilities
The Cashier will be responsible for:
- Delivering excellent customer service according to Dis-Chem policies
- Building professional relationships with customers
- Reporting customer compliments or complaints to supervisors
- Maintaining required customer turnover rates at checkout
- Staying informed about current promotions and sales
- Handling cash flow and daily transactions responsibly
- Processing all forms of payment including cash, bank cards, vouchers, and coupons
- Managing loyalty cards including partner programs such as Discovery Health Care, Momentum Multiply, Medihelp Lifestage, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks
- Ensuring all price changes and line voids are authorised by supervisors
- Accepting returns and exchanges when authorised
- Ensuring all outgoing items are scanned and paid for
- Safeguarding cash in the till and following cash drop procedures
- Reporting suspicious activity and maintaining store security procedures
- Addressing customer queries regarding store merchandise
