Job Overview
The Miner’s Assistant supports the Miner in achieving planned production targets safely and efficiently. The role involves assisting with blasting activities, handling explosives, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with mine safety standards.
Requirements
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 / STD 10 or NQF Level 4
- DMRE Competent C (Blasting Certificate)
- 1–3 years’ experience as a Blasting Assistant
- Trackless mining experience (advantageous)
- Valid Certificate of Fitness
- Clear criminal and credit record
Key Competencies
- English literacy
- Basic communication skills
- Basic Strata Control (Competent B MQA)
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- RFAC (Rehabilitation Fitness Assessment Certificate)
- HTS (Heat Tolerance Screening)
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain daily and weekly work instructions from the Supervisor
- Assist the Miner in achieving production and quality targets
- Ensure proper use of tools and equipment
- Support early entry examination procedures
- Assist with explosives handling, storage, and charging of shot holes
- Install, test, and maintain blasting circuits
- Assist in identifying and treating misfires
- Perform basic equipment maintenance
- Report safety hazards and deviations
- Conduct workplace inspections and recommend corrective actions
- Support team members to achieve operational objectives
- Adhere to all mine safety standards, procedures, and regulations
