Job Overview
The Access Controller ensures safe work conditions during hot work and confined space entry activities, monitoring risks in accordance with permit requirements and established safety procedures. The role is critical in identifying potential process changes and preventing unsafe working conditions, safeguarding personnel and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Sign in the appropriate space on the permit form and monitor adherence to safety protocols.
- Familiarise yourself with emergency alarms and buttons in the working area.
- Prevent interference with safe work environments (e.g., blocked access points, improper equipment placement).
- Stop work immediately and evacuate personnel if the environment is unsafe, notifying the permit issuer.
- Control access to confined spaces, ensuring barricades or locks are in place when work is not being performed.
- Ensure confined space entry documentation is completed prior to entry and after exit for all personnel.
- Maintain presence in the workplace until replaced by a competent access controller.
- Return completed documentation to the permit issuer and conduct thorough handovers with relieving controllers.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Grade 12 / N3 qualification
- Minimum ±3 years’ Tank Farm Safety Standby experience
