Job Overview
The Mechanical Artisan is responsible for ensuring that all scheduled and non-routine mechanical maintenance activities are performed efficiently and safely within NECSA’s nuclear and support facilities.
This role includes routine mechanical maintenance, equipment commissioning, problem-solving, and support of nuclear operations, as well as adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical maintenance on pumps, fans, motors, valves, compressors, building components, reactor systems, and hand tools.
- Attend to breakdowns and ensure timely solutions using innovation and technical expertise.
- Support installation, commissioning, and modification of equipment.
- Control purchasing of materials/spares and liaise with suppliers.
- Conduct routine and statutory inspections of equipment and facilities.
- Supervise and assist riggers during lifting equipment inspections.
- Maintain maintenance equipment in good working order, ensuring calibration where required.
- Produce and update mechanical drawings, work procedures, checklists, and maintenance documentation.
- Support QHSE compliance and ISO standards, including internal and external audits.
- Provide training on equipment and maintenance programmes.
- Keep updated with developments in mechanical maintenance and nuclear operations through courses and literature.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Qualified Mechanical Fitter Artisan
- Valid Code 08 driver’s license and own transport
- Medically fit for radiation and chemical work
Experience
- 1–2 years in mechanical maintenance within nuclear or support facilities
- Knowledge of quality assurance, environmental control systems, and regulatory requirements in a nuclear facility
- Machining experience required
- Computer literate
- Willingness to work after hours and on standby duties as needed
