Job Overview
Transnet is seeking a skilled Port Mobile Equipment Driver for the Richards Bay terminal. The role focuses on the safe and efficient loading, transportation, and unloading of cargo using terminal machinery. Applicants within the King Cetshwayo District will be given consideration.
The purpose of this position is to optimize cargo movement, reduce damages, and increase terminal profitability by adhering to operational standards and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily pre-operational checks on allocated equipment to ensure functionality.
- Complete task sheets, record defects, and notify supervisors of issues.
- Replenish fuel and fluid levels of machinery.
- Operate equipment according to standard operating procedures, monitoring performance throughout the shift.
- Operate articulated vehicles, tractor/trailers, forklifts, payloaders, and tip trucks.
- Report any accidents or incidents occurring during operations.
- Ensure the correct equipment and attachments are used for different cargo types.
- Perform end-of-shift tasks, including equipment checks and reporting.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
- Matric/NQF 4.
- Code 14 (EC) Driver’s License.
- Certificate of competence for each machine operated (Dumper, Front End Loader, or Payloader).
- Minimum 2 years of relevant driving experience in port operations, maritime services, or warehouse tally.
Competencies:
- Knowledge of operational areas, procedures, and terminal mobile machines.
- Competence in operating terminal machinery.
- Ability to report defects and incidents accurately.
- Understanding of safety procedures, including machine loading capacities.
- Experience handling and loading different cargo types.
