Youth@WORK is hiring!

Youth@WORK, sponsored by the Youth Employment Service (YES), is offering seven exciting 12-month paid internship opportunities at Stellenbosch University for unemployed South African youth.

These internships provide valuable practical work experience across various fields within the education and social justice sectors.

Successful candidates will gain not only work experience but also access to digital learning modules on work-readiness.

All positions are based in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, with applications closing on 27 March 2026.


Social Sciences Intern – Stellenbosch

Job Title: Social Sciences Intern
Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape
Closing Date: 27 March 2026
Contract: 12 months (fixed-term)
Salary: R 8,192.00 per month (stipend)
Job Type: Paid employment programme
Industry: Education – primary schooling and beyond

Job Summary

Youth@WORK is recruiting for a Social Sciences Intern to support community-based research, social impact programs, and project coordination at Stellenbosch University.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Social Sciences
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Excellent communication skills (English preferred; Afrikaans & IsiXhosa advantageous)
  • Passion for social justice

Responsibilities

  • Conduct community-based research
  • Support social impact programs
  • Assist in project coordination

Eligibility

  • South African citizen aged 18-34
  • Must be a BEE candidate
  • Not previously participated in YES
  • Available for 12 months

  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills (English; Afrikaans & IsiXhosa advantageous)
  • Passion for social justice

Responsibilities

  • Track program performance
