Job Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies Okavango store is seeking a Dispensary Support Learner to join its team. This fixed-term role is designed for candidates enrolled or capable of completing the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course, preparing them for SAPC registration. Successful completion of the course can lead to permanent employment as a registered Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
As a Dispensary Support Learner, you will assist pharmacists with daily dispensary operations, stock management, patient care, and learning to accurately handle medicines under professional supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists with dispensing Schedule 1–5 medicines under direct supervision
- Support the compounding, preparation, and labeling of non-sterile medicines
- Unpack, merchandise, and maintain dispensary and OTC stock shelves
- Interpret prescriptions accurately and adhere to legal requirements
- Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication
- Monitor stock levels, manage expiry dates, and report discrepancies
- Assist with patient communication, call center scripts, and service inquiries
- Support scheme authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the dispensary
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager
Requirements
Essential
- Matric / Senior Certificate with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Sciences, or Physical Science and an average of 50% overall
- Proficiency test passed to apply for SAPC registration as a Learner Basic Assistant
- English and a second language: Read, write, and speak fluently
- Strong time management, attention to detail, and customer service skills
- Computer literacy and numerical skills
Advantageous
- Retail FMCG or prior Dis-Chem front shop experience
- Knowledge of drug, family planning, and complementary medicines
- Experience with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting
Special Conditions of Employment

- Fixed-term learner position until registration with SAPC
