Job Overview
Kumba Iron Ore is seeking an Operations Controller – Shovels to ensure safe and efficient coordination of loading and operational activities.
The role involves operating ultra-class and smaller shovels, optimizing production cycles, and maintaining high safety and performance standards within mining operations.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / N3
- Valid South African driver’s license
- Red Permit
- Valid Dover Certificate
- Relevant HME (Shovel) Licences
Experience & Knowledge
- Minimum 3 years’ mining operational experience
- Strong understanding of:
- Shovel systems and controls
- Collision prevention and safety systems
- Pit layout and hauling operations
- Hydraulic systems and loading techniques

Key Responsibilities
Safety, Health & Environment
- Adhere to safety standards and procedures (SLAM, HIRA, Mini-HIRA)
- Conduct safety inspections and report risks
- Ensure correct PPE usage and safe work practices
Equipment Operation
- Operate ultra-class and smaller shovels safely and efficiently
- Perform pre-shift inspections and equipment checks
- Report defects and assist maintenance teams
Production & Performance
- Execute accurate loading to meet production targets
- Optimize truck–shovel cycles and reduce delays
- Monitor loading conditions and adapt techniques
Operational Support
- Communicate effectively with operators and supervisors
- Participate in incident investigations
- Ensure proper shift handovers
Administration & Reporting
- Maintain records and reports on operations
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
- Uphold housekeeping and environmental standards
