About the Role
DRF is seeking a strategic and creative Communications Consultant to develop and implement impactful communication strategies that enhance the organisation’s visibility, storytelling, and stakeholder engagement.
Job Title: Communications Consultant

Contract Type: Part-Time Consultant (20 hours per week)
Salary: $55–$60 USD per hour
This is a fully remote, part-time role reporting directly to the Executive Director. The successful candidate will translate complex policy and programmatic content into clear, compelling, and accessible messaging for diverse global audiences.
Key Responsibilities
External Communications & Brand Management (50%)
- Implement and execute DRF’s communications strategy aligned with organisational goals
- Maintain a strong, consistent, and accessible brand voice across all platforms
- Collaborate with internal teams to produce high-quality reports, advocacy materials, and content
- Create and edit newsletters, reports, blog posts, press releases, and donor communications
- Amplify disability rights perspectives and partner voices in storytelling
Digital Content Management (30%)
- Manage social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook) with tailored content strategies
- Support Executive Director’s LinkedIn presence
- Maintain and update the organisation’s WordPress website
- Engage with media, journalists, and publications
- Monitor industry trends and media coverage for strategic opportunities
Stakeholder & Internal Coordination (10%)
- Develop communication templates and tools
- Coordinate with external vendors such as designers, videographers, and accessibility experts
Events & Campaign Communications (10%)
- Support communications for webinars, events, and convenings
- Develop promotional and post-event materials
- Assist with advocacy and awareness campaigns
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or 6+ years of equivalent experience in communications, journalism, PR, or related field
- 3–6 years of experience in communications or public relations (nonprofit/social impact preferred)
Core Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills
- Ability to simplify complex topics into engaging, accessible content
- Experience managing social media and email marketing tools (e.g. Mailchimp)
- Familiarity with WordPress or similar CMS platforms
- Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools
- Strong project management and multitasking ability in a remote environment
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
- Commitment to disability rights, inclusion, and accessibility
Technical & Additional Requirements
- Proficiency in MS Office, Zoom, and remote collaboration tools
- Fluency in English (written and verbal)
Preferred Qualifications (Advantageous)
- Experience in disability rights, human rights, or international development sectors
- Familiarity with CRM tools such as Salesforce or HubSpot
- Knowledge of accessible communication and plain language standards
- Experience working in diverse, global, remote teams
- Additional language skills (e.g. French, Portuguese, Bahasa)
