About the Role
UKMis is seeking a Climate & Energy Attaché (Second Secretary) to join its Trade, Sustainability and Markets team in Brussels.

This is a high-impact, fast-paced diplomatic role focused on strengthening UK-EU cooperation on climate and energy policy. You will monitor EU developments, provide strategic advice, and support negotiations on key issues such as carbon markets, clean energy, and net zero transition.
Key Responsibilities
Policy Analysis & Advisory
- Monitor and analyse EU climate, energy, and clean technology policies
- Provide strategic advice and high-quality briefings to UK Government stakeholders
- Assess risks and opportunities for the UK in evolving EU policy frameworks
Stakeholder Engagement & Diplomacy
- Build and maintain strong relationships with EU institutions, Member States, and stakeholders
- Represent UK interests in discussions, meetings, and negotiations
- Support ministerial visits, events, and high-level engagements
Climate & Energy Policy Leadership
- Lead engagement on renewable energy, carbon capture, and clean technologies
- Support UK-EU collaboration on carbon markets and emissions trading systems (ETS)
- Contribute to climate initiatives under the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement
Strategy & Collaboration
- Work closely with UK Government departments and cross-functional teams
- Contribute to shaping UK engagement strategies with the EU
- Support broader UKMis priorities and organisational objectives
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working on EU policy
- Strong understanding of EU institutions and legislative processes
- Expertise in climate and energy policy (including carbon markets and clean technology)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to analyse complex information and present clear insights
- Full professional proficiency in English (C2 level)
Desirable
- Knowledge of UK and EU political landscape
- Experience organising events, panels, or conferences
- Proficiency in French or another European language
