Role Overview

The Global Media & Communication Manager will play a strategic and operational role in strengthening WHH’s international visibility and global positioning.

Job Title: Global Media & Communication Manager
Location: Home-based or within country offices (Global – subject to feasibility)

Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: As soon as possible

You will work at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and media engagement, translating complex humanitarian and development topics into compelling narratives that resonate with global audiences.

This role is ideal for a communications professional who can combine high-level strategic thinking with hands-on execution, while building strong relationships with international media stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Media Engagement

  • Develop and implement an integrated international communications strategy
  • Identify media opportunities and proactively pitch stories to global and specialist outlets
  • Draft and place op-eds, commentaries, and thought leadership pieces
  • Translate complex development topics into compelling, accessible narratives

Media Relations & Visibility

  • Build and maintain relationships with international journalists and editors
  • Manage an international press distribution list
  • Establish and oversee a media monitoring system to track visibility and impact

Content Development & Editorial Leadership

  • Lead editorial planning for the international website
  • Produce high-quality content including:
    • Long-form articles
    • Interviews
    • Expert explainers
  • Ensure content aligns with strategic priorities and global messaging

Cross-Team Collaboration & Project Management

  • Align communication priorities across internal teams
  • Coordinate workflows and manage communication projects
  • Facilitate workshops and internal alignment processes
  • Apply agile working methods to improve efficiency and delivery

Digital Innovation & AI Integration

  • Use AI tools responsibly for:
    • Research and analysis
    • Transcription and content support
    • Workflow optimization

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s in Communications, Journalism, or related field preferred)
  • 5–7 years’ experience in international communications (INGO, multilateral, or similar)
  • Proven experience working with international media and journalists
  • Strong writing, research, and storytelling skills
  • Experience managing projects in global or cross-organizational environments
  • Strategic mindset with hands-on execution ability
  • Fluent English (native-level proficiency required)

Desirable Skills

  • Proficiency in German
  • Experience in humanitarian, development, or food systems sectors
  • Ability to navigate complex global organizational structures
