Role Overview
Mercor is seeking detail-oriented Generalist Experts to support an AI data annotation project.

Job Type: Contract / Freelance
Work Setup: Fully Remote, Flexible Schedule
Expected Commitment: ~20 hours per week
In this role, you will help improve AI systems by categorizing, labeling, and structuring datasets across multiple formats, including text, images, and structured data.
Your work will directly contribute to enhancing the accuracy, reliability, and performance of advanced AI models developed by leading research labs.
Key Responsibilities
Data Annotation & Labeling
- Annotate and categorize text, images, and datasets using predefined guidelines
- Apply structured taxonomies and labeling rubrics consistently
- Ensure data is accurately formatted for AI training purposes
Data Analysis & Quality Control
- Synthesize large volumes of information into structured outputs
- Identify inconsistencies, ambiguities, or errors in datasets
- Maintain high-quality standards in all annotations
AI Model Improvement Support
- Contribute to improving AI performance through accurate data labeling
- Support the refinement of AI training datasets
- Follow evolving annotation guidelines and project requirements
Candidate Profile
Ideal Qualifications
- Strong critical thinking and reading comprehension skills
- Excellent written communication abilities
- Ability to organize and synthesize complex information
- Familiarity with structured guidelines, rubrics, or taxonomies (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in data-related work
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in data annotation or labeling projects
- Experience working with structured data or research-based tasks
- Comfort working independently in remote environments
Work Arrangement
- Fully remote and flexible schedule
- Approximately 20 hours per week commitment
- Contract-based independent work
- Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
- Project duration may vary based on performance and needs
Important Notes
- This is a freelance/independent contractor role
- No access to confidential employer or client data is required
- Not currently open to H1-B or STEM OPT candidates
- Projects may be extended, shortened, or adjusted based on demand
