The African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) program is a flagship initiative focused on strengthening women’s leadership and gender responsiveness in agricultural research across Africa.
Through training, mentorship, and institutional partnerships, AWARD drives systemic change in the agrifood sector.
Role Overview
AWARD is seeking experienced Training Consultants and Facilitators to join its global pool of experts.
Job Title: Training Consultants (AWARD Program)
Location: Home-based (Global, Africa-focused)
Contract: Consultancy (Short-term, assignment-based)

Selected consultants will support the design, delivery, and evaluation of high-impact training programs, helping build capacity across Africa’s agricultural research and development (AR4D) ecosystem.
This is a flexible, assignment-based opportunity offering the chance to collaborate with a diverse network of professionals and contribute to meaningful, long-term impact.

Key Responsibilities
Training Design & Delivery
- Conduct training needs assessments
- Design course objectives and training programs
- Develop engaging, interactive training materials
- Deliver and co-facilitate training sessions
Evaluation & Reporting
- Design and implement course evaluations
- Participate in trainer debrief sessions
- Prepare detailed training reports
Collaboration & Facilitation
- Facilitate meetings and workshops
- Collaborate with other trainers and stakeholders
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- Advanced degree in relevant fields (education, agriculture, social or natural sciences)
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in capacity development and training delivery
- Expertise in one or more relevant thematic areas
- Strong facilitation, presentation, and communication skills
- Experience working in African AR4D contexts
- Familiarity with digital learning tools and platforms
- Proficiency in English and/or French
Desirable Qualifications
- Certifications in leadership, mentoring, or gender training (e.g. MBTI, BELBIN, EI)
- Experience with inclusive education or disability inclusion
- Experience facilitating diverse and multicultural groups
