Supporting this mission are Centres of Excellence in Nairobi, Panama, Amman, and Bangkok, delivering technical expertise across policy reform, programme design, public finance, and institutional strengthening.
As GPD evolves into a delivery-focused structure, it is strengthening its Thought Leadership and Strategic Engagement to influence global development conversations and partnerships.
Internship Overview
This internship, based in the Director’s Office of the Global Programme Division, offers a unique opportunity to contribute to global policy, strategic communications, and programme delivery.

You will support the development of thought leadership initiatives and enhance UNICEF’s internal and external engagement strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Thought Leadership
You will support the development and implementation of thought leadership initiatives, including:
- Assisting in launching a Journal / Field Notes series capturing field insights
- Supporting the Staff Working Paper series (formatting, coordination, and review)
- Contributing to internal engagement initiatives (e.g., book clubs, knowledge-sharing platforms)
- Providing project management and coordination to transition initiatives from pilot to full implementation
Strategic Internal and External Engagement
You will contribute to strengthening communication and visibility efforts by:
- Supporting the Director’s external engagement (LinkedIn articles, posts, and content development)
- Assisting in the coordination and refinement of organizational newsletters
- Exploring digital communication channels (e.g., Instagram, WhatsApp)
- Drafting key messages, talking points, and communication materials
- Supporting internal staff engagement and communication initiatives
Expected Outcomes
By the end of the internship, you will have:
- Helped transition thought leadership initiatives into structured programmes
- Contributed to at least one published or externally shared product
- Supported the development of a consistent engagement pipeline
- Introduced innovative ideas to enhance staff and partner engagement
- Strengthened strategic communication within the Director’s Office
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, candidates must:
- Be enrolled in or recently completed (within one year) a graduate programme in fields such as:
- Business, Economics, Social Sciences
- Political Science, International Development
- Communications or related disciplines
- Demonstrate strong writing and communication skills
- Possess strong organizational and project management abilities
- Show analytical thinking and interest in global policy or communications
- Be able to work independently and in multicultural teams
- Have proficiency in Microsoft Office (knowledge of digital tools is an asset)
- Be fluent in English (additional UN languages are an advantage)
Desired Skills & Experience
- Interest or experience in consulting, strategy, research, or communications
- Ability to synthesize diverse inputs into structured outputs
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

Internship Conditions
