About the Talent Pipeline

This is a Talent Pipeline position, meaning it is not an immediate vacancy. By applying, you express interest in being considered for future Chief of Party (COP) / Project Director roles linked to donor-funded programmes.

Successful candidates will be placed in a pool and contacted when relevant opportunities arise globally.

Role Overview

The Chief of Party / Project Director serves as the senior-most leadership role in large-scale, donor-funded development and humanitarian programmes.

  • Contract Type: Fixed Term (International Assignment – Paid via GCLA)
  • Work Type: Full-time
  • Travel Requirement: Frequent travel depending on assignment

You will provide:

This role requires deep expertise across the full Grant Acquisition Management (GAM) cycle, including proposal development, donor relations, compliance, and programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Programme Direction

  • Define and drive programme strategy, ensuring alignment with organisational mission and donor priorities
  • Lead adaptive programming in response to evolving contexts
  • Promote innovation, learning, and evidence-based decision-making

Programme Implementation and Operations

  • Oversee daily programme delivery to ensure targets and timelines are met
  • Strengthen operational systems including procurement, logistics, and safeguarding
  • Coordinate effectively with internal departments such as Finance, HR, and MEAL

Financial Oversight and Compliance

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial monitoring
  • Ensure compliance with donor regulations and organisational policies
  • Manage sub-grants and partner agreements

Team Leadership and Capacity Building

  • Supervise senior national and international staff
  • Build high-performing, accountable teams
  • Support staff development, mentoring, and partner capacity strengthening

Stakeholder Engagement and Representation

  • Act as the primary liaison with donors, governments, UN agencies, and partners
  • Represent the organisation in high-level forums and coordination platforms
  • Strengthen partnerships and organisational visibility

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)

  • Ensure strong MEAL systems for data quality and programme improvement
  • Oversee reporting, evaluations, and knowledge management
  • Use evidence to guide programme adjustments and demonstrate impact

Required Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Chief of Party, Project Director, or similar leadership role
  • Minimum 10+ years managing large, complex donor-funded programmes
  • Strong leadership and team management across multicultural environments
  • Expertise in grants management, compliance, and programme lifecycle
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong operational and financial management capabilities

Preferred

  • Experience working with major donors (USAID, EU, FCDO, Global Fund, etc.)
  • Familiarity with faith-based NGO environments
  • Experience in donor landscape analysis and Go/No-Go decision-making
  • Additional language skills (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic)

Education Requirements

  • Essential: Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Humanitarian Studies, Public Administration, or related field
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline

Work Environment and Travel

  • Willingness to work in fragile, conflict-affected, or remote locations
  • Ability to travel frequently within assigned regions
