Break Free From Plastic (BFFP) is a global network of over 3,500 organizations across 186 countries working together to end plastic pollution.

In Europe, the movement coordinates 127 member organizations across 33 countries, driving advocacy, campaigns, and systemic change. The European coordination team is hosted by Zero Waste Europe, a leading organization advancing waste reduction and circular economy solutions across the continent.

About the Role

The European Coordinator will provide strategic and operational leadership for the BFFP Europe team. This role is central to ensuring the successful delivery of the European strategy while aligning regional priorities with the global movement.

Job Title: European Coordinator
Location: Belgium or Germany
Salary:

  • Belgium: €4,941 – €5,560 gross/month + benefits
  • Germany: €6,263 – €6,980 gross/month
    Contract Type: Full-time (38 hours/week), Permanent (subject to funding)
    Closing Date: 7 May 2026

You will oversee programme implementation, manage senior team members, lead fundraising efforts, and represent the movement at high-level stakeholder engagements.

This is a unique opportunity to lead a major environmental movement across Europe and contribute to global efforts to eliminate plastic pollution.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the delivery of BFFP Europe’s strategy
  • Align European initiatives with global movement priorities
  • Provide vision and direction to strengthen regional impact

Team Management

  • Line manage senior staff within the Europe coordination team
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture

Fundraising & Resource Mobilization

  • Lead fundraising efforts and secure sustainable funding
  • Build relationships with donors and funding partners

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

  • Represent BFFP Europe in high-level meetings, events, and forums
  • Strengthen partnerships with NGOs, institutions, and policymakers

Movement Coordination

  • Support collaboration across 127 member organizations
  • Facilitate cross-country coordination and knowledge sharing
  • Ensure effective communication within the network

About You

The ideal candidate is an experienced leader with a passion for environmental advocacy and international collaboration.

You bring:

  • Proven experience in network or movement coordination
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Demonstrated fundraising experience
  • Deep understanding of plastic pollution and environmental issues
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively across cultures in an international setting

You are also a strategic thinker who can translate complex challenges into actionable plans and inspire diverse stakeholders toward a shared goal.
