The Opportunity

GEM is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Grants Finance Manager to join its Finance & Operations team. This role is central to managing a complex portfolio of grant funding, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, and providing organization-wide visibility into financial resources.

Job Type: Full-Time (32–40 hours per week)
Salary Range: $85,186.84 – $106,483.55 per year
Work Arrangement: Fully Remote (Home-based)

You will work closely with Program Directors, Development teams, and leadership to manage budgets, track funding, and support strategic decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Budgeting & Financial Management

  • Collaborate with Program Directors and Development teams to build grant budgets for proposals
  • Manage multiple grant budgets with varying restrictions across programs
  • Lead the grant expense allocation process
  • Track grant spending to ensure funds are used appropriately and remain within budget
  • Maintain clear oversight of how each grant supports programs, staffing, and operations
  • Identify and communicate funding gaps or budget risks early

Grant Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for funders
  • Ensure financial data aligns with narrative reporting requirements
  • Monitor grant deadlines, restrictions, and compliance requirements
  • Support communication with funders regarding budget changes or extensions
  • Assist with contract management and grant administration

Grant Portfolio Oversight

  • Maintain a comprehensive overview of all grant funding across the organization
  • Track allocation of funds across programs, roles, and operational costs
  • Develop monthly financial tracking and long-term (up to 3-year) funding projections
  • Support teams with insights for planning and fundraising strategies

Systems Development & Organizational Support

  • Build and improve financial systems and tools for grant tracking and reporting
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights
  • Serve as a key resource for staff on grant-related financial matters
  • Support cross-team coordination and alignment on funding usage
  • Strengthen processes for financial planning, compliance, and reporting

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing grant budgets or nonprofit finances
  • Strong understanding of grant restrictions and financial reporting
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex financial concepts
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Intermediate to advanced spreadsheet skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment
  • Fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
  • Experience building or improving financial systems or grant management tools
  • Advanced spreadsheet and data analysis skills
  • Strong problem-solving ability and capacity to work independently
