Role Overview

The Community Engagement, Communications & Youth Advocacy Internship supports Generation Unlimited (GenU) in advancing youth-centered communications, strengthening thought leadership, and enabling meaningful youth engagement across global platforms.

This internship provides hands-on experience in digital engagement, advocacy, youth participation strategies, and high-level partnerships. Interns will contribute to global initiatives that empower young people while gaining valuable exposure within an internationally recognized development platform.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement & Communications

  • Manage and engage audiences across Generation Unlimited social media platforms
  • Monitor and respond to messages and comments in a timely and authentic manner
  • Support development and management of AI-enabled communication tools for leadership engagement (e.g., LinkedIn)
  • Assist in producing and managing the quarterly Generation Unlimited newsletter
  • Track and monitor engagement performance metrics

Youth Engagement & Advocacy

  • Support the design and implementation of youth engagement strategies
  • Assist in operationalizing initiatives led by the Young People’s Action Team globally and regionally
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Youth Centrality Strategy and Youth Centrality Index
  • Gather and integrate feedback from young people—especially marginalized groups—into programming and research
  • Support youth-led initiatives, particularly in entrepreneurship and advocacy

High-Level Partnerships & Events

  • Maintain and update Global Leadership Council (GLC) databases and membership records
  • Support coordination of high-level events, including the Global Leadership Council meeting during the UN General Assembly
  • Assist in stakeholder engagement and partnership coordination activities

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for this internship, candidates must:

  • Be currently enrolled in or have recently completed (within the past 2 years) a graduate program in:
    • International Relations
    • Political Science
    • Education
    • Business
    • Monitoring & Evaluation
    • Entrepreneurship or related fields
  • Demonstrate interest or experience in youth development, public policy, or international development
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Be fluent in English
