Role Overview

The Creative Writer Consultant will play a key role in shaping and amplifying the organization’s voice through compelling storytelling and strategic communications.

Working within the Communications Team, you will produce impactful content that highlights Indigenous rights, environmental protection, and climate justice—helping to drive awareness, engagement, and fundraising efforts.

This role requires strong editorial judgment, research ability, and the agility to produce high-quality content under tight deadlines in a fast-paced advocacy environment.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Storytelling

  • Develop engaging content for websites, email newsletters, and social media
  • Write compelling narratives supporting campaigns, fundraising, and advocacy
  • Produce op-eds and opinion pieces on environmental and human rights issues
  • Translate complex topics into accessible, impactful storytelling

Editorial & Quality Assurance

  • Fact-check and verify information across all communications materials
  • Edit and proofread content to ensure clarity, consistency, and accuracy
  • Maintain editorial standards and alignment with organizational messaging
  • Support contributors in refining and strengthening their written content

Digital Engagement & Fundraising

  • Create content for digital campaigns, donor engagement, and fundraising appeals
  • Develop email newsletters and audience-focused messaging strategies
  • Optimize content for engagement and performance across digital platforms

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work closely with the Head of Digital Content and Communications
  • Collaborate with internal teams, partners, and stakeholders
  • Contribute to communication strategies and campaign planning
  • Support research, interviews, and storytelling for investigative projects

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in journalism, communications, or editorial roles
  • Strong background in environmental, climate, or human rights storytelling
  • Full professional fluency in English and strong proficiency in Spanish
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Experience creating content for digital platforms and fundraising campaigns
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong research, fact-checking, and analytical skills
  • Experience working with international NGOs or nonprofit organizations

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Indigenous rights and Amazon-related issues
  • Ability to craft donor-centered storytelling that drives engagement
  • Familiarity with digital content performance and audience segmentation
  • Experience writing for multiple formats (articles, scripts, social media, reports)
