About GIZ and the Programme
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is a German federal enterprise supporting sustainable development across more than 120 countries.
This internship sits within the Energising Development (EnDev) programme, specifically the Demand-Side Subsidies (DSS) component, which focuses on improving access to clean and affordable energy solutions for marginalised populations, including refugees and host communities.
The DSS initiative pilots subsidy mechanisms to expand access to:
- Solar home systems
- Clean and improved cookstoves
The programme operates in collaboration with international partners across Sub-Saharan Africa and is now entering its final closure phase.

Internship Overview
The intern will support the structured closure and documentation phase of DSS pilots across four Sub-Saharan African countries, ensuring knowledge, results, and evaluations are properly captured and communicated.

This role is designed for candidates interested in international development, energy access, and programme management within a global cooperation context.
Key Responsibilities
Project Closure Support
- Assist in the structured closure of DSS pilot activities across multiple countries
- Support coordination of final programme documentation and reporting
Knowledge & Communication Products
- Contribute to the development of communication materials
- Support writing, editing, and formatting of knowledge products
- Assist in preparing publications and final programme outputs
Events & Coordination
- Support planning and organisation of closure events
- Assist in coordination with internal and external stakeholders
Research & Evaluation Support
- Support review of DSS-related studies and evaluations
- Contribute to synthesis of findings and lessons learned
Stakeholder Engagement
- Assist in coordination with international development stakeholders
- Support knowledge exchange on demand-side subsidy approaches
Required Profile
Education
- At least 2 years of university studies in:
- Social Sciences
- Economics
- Natural Sciences
- Development Studies
- Energy or related interdisciplinary fields
Skills & Competencies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (English required)
- Excellent analytical and research capabilities
- Strong organisational and planning skills
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- MS Teams knowledge is an advantage
- Ability to work collaboratively in international environments
Desirable Experience
- Exposure to Sub-Saharan Africa or regional development contexts
- Interest or experience in energy access or development cooperation
- Familiarity with international development programmes or evaluations
- German or French language skills (advantageous)
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be currently enrolled as a student OR have graduated within the last 6 months at the start of the internship
- Fluency in English is mandatory
- Must meet GIZ internship eligibility requirements
