Role Overview
Refugees International is seeking a creative and strategic Digital Media Officer to strengthen its digital presence and amplify its global impact.
Job Title: Digital Media Officer
Location: Washington, DC, USA (Hybrid – minimum 3 days in office)
Contract Type: Full-Time
Salary: $60,000 – $65,000 per year
This role sits within the Strategic Outreach team and reports to the Vice President of Strategic Outreach. It is ideal for someone who excels at transforming complex humanitarian and policy issues into engaging, accessible digital content across multiple platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Content Creation
- Develop engaging digital content for platforms including Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and emerging channels
- Produce multimedia assets such as graphics, short videos, reels, and explainers
- Ensure content is optimized for performance across platforms
Social Media Strategy & Management
- Maintain and manage a strategic content calendar
- Ensure consistent and timely publishing across all channels
- Monitor trends and platform updates to improve engagement and reach
Campaign & Outreach Support
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify key messaging opportunities
- Support digital campaigns, rapid-response communications, and major initiatives
- Contribute to storytelling that aligns with organizational priorities
Content & Publishing Support
- Assist with layout and design of reports and long-form content
- Support website publishing and email marketing efforts
Brand & Ethics
- Uphold organizational values through accurate, respectful, and ethical storytelling
- Ensure all content reflects dignity and sensitivity when addressing displacement issues
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a compelling storytelling ability
- Proven experience creating high-performing digital and social media content
- Proficiency in design and editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Final Cut, or similar)
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, analytics, and trends
- Ability to simplify complex policy or humanitarian topics into engaging content
- Excellent organizational and collaboration skills

- Lived experience of forced displacement (encouraged but not required)
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role based in Washington, DC, requiring at least three days per week in the office. The position offers a collaborative and flexible work environment within a mission-driven team.
