Carbon Direct is seeking Scientific Project Reviewers to assist with technical assessments and diligence reviews of carbon reduction and carbon dioxide removal projects worldwide.

This opportunity is ideal for advanced graduate students (Master’s or PhD level) and early-career professionals in climate-related disciplines who want to gain practical experience in the rapidly growing carbon markets and climate technology sector.
You will review project proposals using established quality criteria, contributing to reports that assess the credibility, feasibility, and scientific rigor of climate projects.
All work is conducted under the supervision of senior scientists and follows a rigorous quality assurance process.
Key Responsibilities
Project Reviews & Technical Assessment
- Review carbon project proposals across multiple technologies and sectors
- Assess projects using predefined scientific quality criteria
- Analyse project methodologies, assumptions, and risks
Research & Reporting
- Prepare concise technical reports using standardised templates
- Evaluate climate and carbon removal claims against scientific evidence
- Support due diligence and project validation processes
Collaboration
- Work closely with Carbon Direct senior scientists
- Participate in QA/QC review processes
- Contribute to maintaining scientific rigor and transparency
Candidate Profile
Ideal Backgrounds
Candidates may come from fields such as:
- Forestry
- Environmental Science
- Ecology

- Sustainability or related disciplines
Required Qualifications
- Advanced graduate-level studies (Master’s or PhD preferred)
- Strong analytical and research skills
- Ability to evaluate scientific and technical documentation

- Familiarity with carbon dioxide removal technologies
