Role Overview
InPlanet is hiring a Head of Carbon to lead and scale the operational, project management, and leadership functions of its carbon credit team.
Reporting directly to the VP of Science and Research, this senior leadership role will oversee the coordination and execution of carbon credit issuance processes as the organisation experiences rapid growth.
The successful candidate will ensure carbon credit activities run efficiently across documentation, reporting, compliance, registry management, and stakeholder coordination.
This is a strategic and operational leadership opportunity for someone passionate about climate solutions, carbon markets, and scaling high-impact environmental innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Process Management
- Lead and manage end-to-end project timelines for carbon credit activities
- Build scalable operational frameworks for carbon credit processes
- Ensure all milestones and deliverables are completed on schedule
- Coordinate administrative and compliance processes with carbon registries such as Isometric
- Improve workflows and operational efficiency across the carbon function
Team Leadership & Management
- Manage and support the growing carbon team
- Set objectives, KPIs, and OKRs aligned with company goals
- Recruit, onboard, and develop future team members
- Provide structure and leadership within a fast-scaling startup environment
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the central coordination point between carbon, operations, and business development teams
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and cross-functional communication
- Track internal commitments and ensure accountability across departments
- Represent the carbon function in planning and leadership meetings
Strategy & Carbon Reporting
- Support the development of long-term carbon crediting strategies
- Oversee forecasting, projections, and issuance reporting activities
- Help evolve the organisational structure of the carbon team as the company grows
- Allocate resources effectively to support scaling operations
Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications
Education & Technical Background
- Master’s degree in a relevant field such as:
- Environmental Science
- Carbon Management
- Geochemistry
- Climate Science
- Related scientific disciplines
Experience & Skills
- Strong project management experience, ideally in startups or scale-ups
- Experience managing teams and balancing multiple priorities
- Scientific or technical understanding of carbon crediting concepts
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively across departments and stakeholder groups
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced and evolving environments
- Willingness to travel regularly
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in carbon markets or carbon credit issuance
- Familiarity with carbon registries and compliance processes
- Experience leading organisations through rapid growth phases
- Portuguese language skills
- Based in Brazil
- PhD in a related discipline
