CEE Bankwatch Network is an international network of environmental and civil society organisations operating across Central and Eastern Europe.
The network works with 17 member organisations across 14 countries to promote sustainable development, environmental protection, climate finance accountability, and responsible public investment policies.

Role Overview
CEE Bankwatch Network is seeking a Communications Officer to support the organisation’s communications and outreach activities across Central and Eastern Europe and beyond.

Contract Duration: 1-year fixed-term contract (Maternity Cover)

This position is offered as maternity cover on a one-year fixed-term basis.
The successful candidate will work with an international communications team located across Prague, Warsaw, Belgrade, and Zagreb, supporting strategic communications, media engagement, digital outreach, and campaign visibility throughout the network.
The role is ideal for communications professionals passionate about environmental advocacy, climate issues, media engagement, and international NGO work.
Key Responsibilities
Media and Communications Support
- Coordinate international media responses and pitch stories related to Bankwatch’s work
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets
- Identify compelling stories from member organisations and partners for blogs, op-eds, multimedia content, and campaigns
- Develop creative communications approaches to promote publications, campaigns, and advocacy work
Digital Communications and Campaign Promotion
- Support social media communications and online dissemination strategies
- Assist in developing digital and multimedia content for campaigns and publications
- Promote Bankwatch outputs across online media platforms and communications channels
- Provide communications support to campaigners across the organisation’s strategic work areas
Strategic Communications Collaboration
- Participate in communications planning, brainstorming sessions, and strategic discussions
- Contribute to communications knowledge-sharing and coordination across the network
- Support collaborative communications efforts within a decentralised international team environment
Essential Requirements
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Excellent English writing, editing, and communication skills
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in communications, journalism, media, or related fields
- Experience supporting advocacy, campaigning, or public-interest communications initiatives
- Proven experience in at least two of the following areas:
- Strategic communications and messaging
- Journalist relations and media pitching
- Social media management and digital communications
- WordPress website management
- Graphic design and data visualisation
- Video editing or multimedia production
- Writing blogs, op-eds, and campaign content
- Publication preparation and dissemination
- Ability to work remotely and collaboratively within international teams
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities
Desirable Skills and Experience
The following will be considered an advantage:
- Knowledge of energy and environmental politics
- Familiarity with climate finance and sustainability issues
- Understanding of Central and Eastern European regional contexts
- Experience working within NGOs or advocacy organisations
- International work experience in decentralised environments
