Job Opportunity: Finance Officer at the Lutheran World Federation

Job Title: Finance Officer
Location: Geneva, Switzerland

Contract: Open-ended, Part-time (80%)
Starting Date: Ideally September 1, 2026
Work Environment: Minimal travel (less than 7 days per year)

The Finance Officer will support the financial management of DTMJ by ensuring compliance, accountability, and transparency of resources.

The role involves coordinating financial processes, preparing financial data for donor engagement, supporting resource development efforts, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to sustain the department’s financial health.

Key Responsibilities

Budget Management and Monitoring

  • Prepare annual working budgets in collaboration with relevant teams
  • Generate quarterly budget monitoring reports and maintain Sage reports

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare and submit financial reports and income schedules
  • Draft budget variance narratives and coordinate year-end reports

Resource Development Support

  • Compile accurate financial data to support grant applications and donor proposals
  • Monitor funding trends and identify funding gaps
  • Support project budget development and funding calculations

Administrative Finance

  • Manage monthly income coding and reconciliation
  • Review and approve departmental payments
  • Provide financial orientation and capacity building for staff

Compliance and Closing

  • Support the annual financial closing process
  • Assist with external audits and address audit observations
  • Provide documentation for interim audits

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business administration, or equivalent professional qualification
  • Professional accreditation (ACCA, CMA, CPA) is an asset
  • Fluency in English; working knowledge of French or German is advantageous

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management within NGOs, international organizations, or corporate sectors, preferably in faith-based or ecumenical contexts
  • Experience with international donors, grants management, multi-currency environments, and compliance frameworks

  • Strong skills in financial reporting, data management, and proficiency with Sage or similar ERP systems
  • Knowledge of digital finance tools and emerging technologies
