Role Overview
The Forestry and Biomass Specialist will manage and deliver certification audits across forestry and biomass sustainability schemes, supporting clients throughout the entire certification process.
Job Title: Forestry and Biomass Specialist
Location: France (Fully Remote)
Working Hours: 35-hour working week
Remote Status: Fully Remote

From planning audits and coordinating logistics to conducting on-site assessments and preparing technical reports, you will ensure that certification activities are delivered with the highest levels of integrity, professionalism, and quality.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct Certification Audits
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct FSC Chain of Custody (CoC), FSC Forest Management (FM), PEFC Chain of Custody, PEFC RED, and SBP certification audits.
- Deliver audits throughout France and internationally when required.
- Evaluate compliance against certification standards and prepare comprehensive audit reports.
- Ensure audits are completed according to established procedures and quality requirements.
Manage the Full Certification Cycle
- Coordinate audit schedules and logistics.
- Communicate effectively with clients throughout the certification process.
- Maintain accurate certification records and documentation.
- Complete audit reporting and certification administration activities within required deadlines.
- Manage Salesforce data entry and client records.
Support Biomass Sustainability Services
- Deliver Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) audits.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of biomass-related certification services.
- Support the creation of proposals, procedures, technical resources, and guidance materials.
- Promote consistency and credibility across biomass certification activities.
Provide Technical Guidance
- Advise clients on certification requirements, standards, trademark use, and certification procedures.
- Support organizations in understanding and implementing sustainability requirements.
- Act as a trusted technical resource for forestry and biomass certification matters.
Industry Engagement and Monitoring
- Participate in certification scheme activities, stakeholder consultations, and working groups.
- Monitor developments in forestry, biomass sustainability, renewable energy, and certification regulations.
- Stay informed on evolving industry trends and best practices.
Continuous Improvement and Quality Assurance
- Contribute to quality assurance processes and service improvement initiatives.
- Support technical development and innovation within forestry and biomass certification programs.
- Help strengthen Preferred by Nature’s position as a trusted sustainability certification provider.
Your First Year at Preferred by Nature
Within Your First Three Months
You will:
- Complete onboarding and certification training programs.
- Gain familiarity with Preferred by Nature’s mission, systems, and certification procedures.
- Receive training on FSC, PEFC, and SBP standards where required.
- Shadow experienced auditors during certification assessments.
- Build relationships with internal teams and clients.
- Support audit planning, reporting, and client coordination activities.
Within Six Months
You will:
- Conduct FSC, PEFC, and SBP audits with increasing independence.
- Deliver quality audit reports within expected timelines.
- Become a reliable contact point for assigned clients.
- Support certification scheduling and Salesforce administration.
- Contribute to service development initiatives and technical resources.
Within One Year
You will:
- Independently manage FSC FM, FSC CoC, PEFC CoC, PEFC RED, and SBP audits.
- Manage certification portfolios and client relationships.
- Support strategic development of biomass sustainability services.
- Provide technical guidance and contribute to quality assurance initiatives.
- Help drive continuous improvement across certification programs.

Required Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
Option 1
- University degree in Forestry, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Minimum three years of professional experience in forestry, biomass, certification, sustainability, or a related field.
Option 2
- Secondary school qualification (high school certificate).
- Minimum six years of relevant professional experience in forestry, ecology, consultancy, research, sociology, economics, anthropology, or related disciplines.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English.
- Strong professional ethics and commitment to impartiality.

Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications would be advantageous:
- Experience with FSC and PEFC certification systems.
- Familiarity with Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) standards and auditing procedures.
- Auditor training or experience with environmental management systems.
- Experience using Salesforce or similar customer relationship management platforms.
- Additional language skills beyond French and English.
