About the Role

The UK Mission to the United Nations (UKMIS) in New York is seeking a dedicated and professional Residence Housekeeper to join its Residence team.

The Permanent Representative’s Residence hosts a wide range of diplomatic events, official visits, and high-level engagements. This role is essential in maintaining the highest standards of hospitality, cleanliness, and guest service, ensuring that the Residence remains welcoming and operational at all times.

Reporting directly to the Residence Manager, the successful candidate will work as part of a highly effective team responsible for supporting diplomatic activities and providing exceptional service to distinguished guests and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Housekeeping Duties

Maintain the Residence to an exemplary standard by:

  • Vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and polishing floors throughout guest bedrooms, bathrooms, reception areas, and pantry spaces.
  • Changing bed linens and making beds.
  • Washing, folding, and ironing linens and napkins.
  • Cleaning and maintaining guest rooms and common areas.
  • Washing dishes following official functions and events.
  • Cleaning event and reception spaces before and after functions.
  • Maintaining furniture and fixtures to a high standard.
  • Ensuring guest rooms are fully stocked with towels, linens, and essential supplies.
  • Cleaning accessible windows.
  • Vacuuming carpeted areas after official receptions and events.

Event and Hospitality Support

  • Assist with event preparation, setup, delivery, and post-event clean-up.
  • Support Residence functions and official engagements.
  • Assist the Residence Manager with butler duties during meals and hosted events.
  • Welcome guests and visitors with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Provide high-quality hospitality services throughout Residence events.

Property Maintenance and Support

  • Monitor and report maintenance issues, damaged items, and safety concerns.
  • Assist with watering plants when required.
  • Support the Residence Manager with additional duties as assigned.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, organized, and professional environment.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must:

  • Demonstrate reliability and a strong work ethic.
  • Be able to follow instructions and undertake a variety of tasks.
  • Have legal authorization to live and work in the United States at the time of application.
  • Possess strong written and spoken English skills.
  • Be able to stand and work on their feet for extended periods.
  • Be capable of lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

The following will be advantageous:

  • Previous experience in hospitality or housekeeping.
  • Experience working in hotels, diplomatic residences, private households, or similar environments.
  • Experience supporting formal events and guest services.
  • Knowledge of professional housekeeping standards and hospitality best practices.

Eligibility

Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in the United States in their own right or as an eligible dependent.

The UK Government does not routinely sponsor work visas for this position. Candidates must be able to provide proof of work authorization if requested.

Working Hours

Typical working hours are:

Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Occasional evening, weekend, or overtime work may be required to support official events and residence operations. Overtime must be approved by management.

Due to the nature of the role, this position is fully on-site and is not eligible for hybrid or remote working arrangements.
