Role Overview
GSCC is seeking an experienced and strategically minded Editor, Energy Transition to join its international communications network on a six-month maternity leave cover contract.

Location: Remote / Flexible (+/- 2hrs CET)
Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract (6 Months)

This role is ideal for an accomplished editor with exceptional writing and editing skills, a strong understanding of climate and energy issues, and the ability to use editorial content as a tool for strategic communications and audience engagement.
Working alongside communicators, researchers, and digital experts from around the world, you will lead the editorial direction and quality of two editorial platforms. You will be responsible for shaping narratives, managing content production, guiding contributors, and ensuring all content supports wider strategic communication objectives.
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines editorial excellence with strategic thinking and people management.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Strategy and Content Leadership
- Translate strategic communications objectives into effective editorial decisions.
- Identify, develop, and shape stories that influence key debates and target audiences.
- Ensure editorial content aligns with organisational goals and communication strategies.
- Maintain the quality, consistency, and strategic relevance of all published content.
Energy Transition and Climate Coverage
- Monitor industry, political, public, and media developments related to energy transition.
- Track developments across climate policy, decarbonisation initiatives, renewable energy deployment, oil and gas markets, and emerging technologies.
- Monitor global and regional developments, including energy transition trends in Asia.
Content Commissioning and Publication
- Commission, edit, and publish articles across key coverage areas.
- Work with a diverse global network of freelance contributors.
- Ensure content meets high standards of accuracy, clarity, tone, and editorial integrity.
- Occasionally write opinion pieces and other editorial content as required.
Editorial Planning and Workflow Management
- Develop and maintain editorial calendars.
- Balance long-term content planning with responsive coverage of breaking news.
- Implement and uphold editorial standards and style guide requirements.
- Manage editorial workflows efficiently across multiple time zones.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Provide line management and editorial guidance to a writer.
- Offer regular feedback, coaching, and professional support.
- Collaborate closely with digital colleagues to maximise audience reach and engagement.
- Build strong working relationships across a globally distributed team.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as an Editor within a global digital news environment.
- Demonstrated expertise covering climate, energy, environmental, or related sectors.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and line-editing skills.
- Outstanding command of the English language.
- Strong editorial judgement and news sense.
- Experience identifying strategically important stories and framing them effectively for target audiences.
- Understanding of how editorial content contributes to strategic communications objectives.
- Ability to work independently and make sound editorial decisions.
- Strong organisational and stakeholder management skills.
- Genuine passion for climate action and the energy transition.
- Commitment to inclusive and collaborative ways of working.
Desirable Qualifications
- Existing relationships with climate, energy, or finance journalists and correspondents.
- Knowledge of energy transition developments within Asian markets.
- Experience working with WordPress.
- Familiarity with digital collaboration tools including Zoom, Slack, and Google Workspace.
- Additional language skills beyond English.
