Position Overview

UNDP is seeking a motivated and analytically driven Statistics Intern to join the Human Development Report Office. The successful candidate will work closely with the Statistics Team and support the preparation of the Statistical Annex for the Human Development Report, along with related analytical products and outreach activities.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in statistical analysis, development research, international data systems, and policy-relevant reporting within a globally recognized development organization.

Key Responsibilities

Statistical Analysis and Research

  • Support the production of human development and related indices for the Human Development Report.
  • Conduct quantitative analysis and generate statistical estimates as required.
  • Assist in analyzing development-related datasets and indicators.

Data Quality and Verification

  • Review, edit, and fact-check statistical tables and annexes.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity across statistical outputs.
  • Support quality assurance processes for published data products.

Reporting and Presentation Support

  • Assist in preparing statistical presentations and analytical materials.
  • Contribute to materials supporting the Human Development Report launch and related events.
  • Help communicate complex statistical findings to diverse audiences.

Operational and Administrative Support

  • Provide logistical support for meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Assist with responses to external inquiries regarding HDRO statistics.
  • Support additional activities and special projects as required.

Required Qualifications

Education

Applicants must be:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. programme; or
  • Completing a Master’s degree; or
  • In the final year of a Bachelor’s degree programme; or
  • A recent graduate within one year of graduation.

Preferred fields of study include:

  • Related quantitative disciplines

Experience and Technical Skills

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Experience conducting statistical or quantitative analysis on development-related topics.
  • Proficiency in Stata for statistical analysis.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to work with large datasets and produce analytical outputs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working with household survey data.
  • Familiarity with human development concepts and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of international development issues and indicators.

Work Flexibility

Internship Stipend

Eligible interns may receive a monthly stipend in accordance with UNDP Internship Policy if they are not financially supported through another institution, scholarship, or programme.
