Role Overview

The European Fossil Free Future Campaign Team is seeking a highly creative and strategic Digital Lead to drive impactful digital campaigning across Europe.

This exciting opportunity is ideal for an experienced digital campaigner, social media strategist, or content creator passionate about climate justice and environmental advocacy. The successful candidate will play a leading role in creating compelling digital content, coordinating online campaigns, managing digital projects, and helping grow public engagement around the movement for a fossil-free future.

Working closely with colleagues across multiple European offices, you will create high-performing social media content, oversee digital engagement strategies, coordinate campaign websites and petitions, and contribute to the overall success of climate action initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation

  • Develop and create engaging digital content that supports campaign objectives.
  • Produce high-quality videos for social media platforms.
  • Design image macros, graphics, memes, and other digital campaign materials.
  • Create supporter emails and digital engagement content.
  • Deliver rapid-response content during breaking news and campaign moments.
  • Monitor campaign conversations across digital channels.
  • Analyze content performance and recommend improvements based on insights and data.

Digital Project Coordination

  • Coordinate digital projects including:
    • Online petitions
    • Campaign websites
    • Major content production initiatives
  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders across European offices.
  • Support and guide digital team members working on international and national campaign activities.
  • Collaborate with Greenpeace International communications teams, engagement specialists, and external agencies.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and achieve campaign objectives.

Digital Strategy

  • Develop and implement digital strategies that strengthen campaign impact.
  • Contribute to campaign planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Create short- and medium-term digital campaign plans.
  • Identify opportunities for audience growth and supporter engagement.
  • Support strategic decision-making using digital performance data and audience insights.

Audience Engagement and Innovation

  • Conduct audience targeting and message testing.
  • Explore innovative engagement approaches beyond standard digital practices.
  • Implement best practices across digital platforms and engagement tools.
  • Use an iterative test-learn-improve approach to campaign development.
  • Monitor current events and identify opportunities for timely campaign responses.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for digital engagement opportunities and rapid-response communications.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience creating social media content that delivers strong engagement, audience growth, and measurable impact.
  • Expert knowledge of platforms such as:
    • TikTok
    • Instagram
    • YouTube
  • Strong content creation and storytelling skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively generate ideas.
  • Experience using analytics, testing, and performance data to improve results.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Experience working with multicultural, international, and geographically distributed teams.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of climate justice and environmental campaigning.
  • Experience with photo and video editing software and digital content production tools.
  • Highly collaborative, flexible, and responsive working style.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in climate activism, environmental campaigns, or sustainability initiatives.
  • Understanding of intersectional and decolonial approaches to climate justice.
  • Experience working within advocacy, campaigning, or non-profit organizations.
  • Familiarity with international digital campaigning strategies and movement-building.
