About MedECC
The Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC) is an independent international network of more than 300 scientists committed to delivering rigorous, policy-relevant scientific assessments on climate and environmental change throughout the Mediterranean region.
Hosted by Plan Bleu in partnership with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), MedECC strengthens the science-policy interface by translating scientific knowledge into practical guidance for governments, policymakers, and stakeholders.
The organization has produced several landmark scientific publications, including:
- First Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR1)
- Special Report on Climate and Environmental Coastal Risks
- Special Report on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus
MedECC is currently preparing the Second Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR2), scheduled for publication in 2028.
Position Overview
MedECC is seeking a talented Information and Graphic Designer Consultant to support the visual communication and information design of the Second Mediterranean Assessment Report (MAR2).

The successful consultant will help transform complex scientific findings into engaging, accessible, and visually compelling graphics that communicate effectively with policymakers, stakeholders, and the general public.

Key Responsibilities
The selected consultant will:
- Develop a comprehensive visual style guide for MAR2 graphics.
- Design consistent visual standards for report illustrations and figures.
- Assess graphical support requirements across all report chapters.
- Improve existing figures and create new scientific graphics.
- Collaborate closely with report authors and scientific experts.
- Produce infographics and visual communication materials.
- Coordinate the preparation of graphics for the Summary for Policymakers (SPM).
- Translate complex scientific information into engaging visual narratives.
- Participate in virtual meetings, brainstorming sessions, and planning discussions.
- Support the overall visual communication strategy for MAR2.

Expected Deliverables
The consultant will deliver:
- A comprehensive visual style guide for MAR2.
- Graphics for the Summary for Policymakers (SPM).
- Graphics for the full assessment report.
- Visual content for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) documents.
- Final files in PDF and editable vector formats (Adobe InDesign or Adobe Illustrator).
All deliverables will become the shared property of MedECC and Plan Bleu.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Design, Communications, Graphic Design, or a related discipline.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Professional proficiency in graphic design software.
- Another Mediterranean language is considered an advantage.

Scientific Communication
- Explaining complex scientific information to non-specialist audiences.

Remote Work and Travel
The consultancy will be carried out primarily remotely.
The successful consultant will be expected to attend in-person meetings in Marseille, including:
- Author Meeting: 30 November – 2 December 2026
- Author Meeting: May 2027
- Summary for Policymakers (SPM) Workshop (date to be confirmed)
AI Usage Policy
MedECC permits the controlled use of generative AI tools only for limited support functions such as brainstorming, document structuring, and editorial assistance.
Consultants remain fully responsible for:
- Accuracy of all content.
- Scientific integrity.
- Source verification.
- Originality of deliverables.
- Transparency regarding any AI-assisted work.
Failure to comply with these requirements may result in requested revisions, contract termination, or cancellation of payments.
