About the Opportunity

The British High Commission in Ottawa is recruiting a Finance and HR Administrative Officer to provide operational finance and human resources support across the Canada Network, which includes the British High Commission in Ottawa and Consulates General in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver.

Job Title: Finance and HR Administrative Officer
Employer: British High Commission Ottawa (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office – FCDO)
Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Contract Type: Fixed-Term (12 Months)
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: CAD $5,185.54 per month (Non-negotiable)
Start Date: 19 October 2026

This role is primarily focused on finance (75%), with additional HR responsibilities (25%). The successful candidate will oversee accounts payable processes, support accounts receivable activities, and provide operational cover for payroll, pensions, and employee benefits administration when required.

Key Responsibilities

Finance Administration

The successful candidate will:

  • Manage the Ottawa Accounts Payable mailbox.
  • Serve as the main contact for supplier invoices and payment-related enquiries.
  • Process and monitor payment requests from submission to completion.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and payment tracking systems.
  • Investigate and resolve invoice and payment issues.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders across the Canada Network.
  • Support accounts receivable activities, including reconciliations and deposits.
  • Apply FCDO financial policies and procedures consistently.
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance administration processes.
  • Escalate complex finance issues where appropriate.

Human Resources Support

The Finance and HR Administrative Officer will also:

  • Provide operational support for payroll administration.
  • Assist with pension and employee benefits processes.
  • Provide HR operational cover during periods of leave or peak workloads.
  • Maintain knowledge of HR systems and administrative procedures to support business continuity.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • Experience processing invoices, accounts payable, or other financial transactions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Experience communicating with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret and apply financial policies and procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Professional proficiency in English.

Desirable Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Experience in payroll administration.
  • Knowledge of pension administration.
  • Experience managing employee benefits.

Salary and Benefits

Successful candidates will receive:
