About the Opportunity
Health Care Without Harm is seeking an experienced Food Commitments Manager to lead projects that help hospitals and health systems implement sustainable food purchasing and food service practices.

Salary: $71,600 – $82,300 per year

This fully remote role is ideal for an experienced project manager with a passion for climate action, resilient food systems, sustainability, and health equity. The successful candidate will work with health care organizations, supply chain partners, and industry stakeholders to promote climate-smart food initiatives, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, minimize food waste, and strengthen sustainable procurement practices across the health care sector.
The position is a full-time, time-limited contract ending on 30 September 2027.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Planning
The Food Commitments Manager will:
- Develop annual work plans supporting HCWH’s food systems strategy.
- Collaborate across internal teams to implement strategic food and climate initiatives.
- Support fundraising activities and maintain relationships with funders.
- Promote organizational values in all projects and partnerships.
Programme Management
Responsibilities include:
- Manage projects supporting sustainable food purchasing and climate resilience.
- Lead initiatives promoting values-based food procurement across health care institutions.
- Build relationships with food distributors, manufacturers, purchasing organizations, and other supply chain stakeholders.
- Develop partnerships with external organizations and collaborative networks.
- Advise hospitals on implementing sustainable food service practices.
- Create educational resources, presentations, implementation guides, and toolkits.
- Contribute to webinars, newsletters, reports, articles, blogs, and conference presentations.
- Support Practice Greenhealth Environmental Excellence Awards.
- Participate in organization-wide initiatives and collaborative working groups.
- Help organize educational sessions and the annual CleanMed conference.
Administrative Responsibilities
The successful candidate will also:
- Coordinate contracts and partnership agreements.
- Support annual budgeting and grant management activities.
- Maintain accurate records within organizational databases.
- Assist with strategic planning and reporting processes.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- At least 3 years of project coordination experience in nonprofit, government, consulting, or health care settings.
- Professional knowledge of food systems, nutrition, public health, or health care operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Graduate-level education or relevant professional certifications.
- Four or more years of relevant experience.
- Experience with institutional food purchasing or health care food service.
- Experience advancing sustainability and equity within food systems.
- Experience working in virtual and matrix organizations.
- Familiarity with nonprofit advocacy or membership-based organizations.
Required Skills and Competencies

- Knowledge of sustainable food systems and climate-smart procurement.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Strategic planning and implementation experience.

- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience creating educational content and organizing events.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Ability to quickly learn collaboration tools such as Slack.
