Richards Bay Minerals (RBM), part of Rio Tinto’s South African operations located in KwaZulu-Natal, is pleased to announce the launch of its 2025 Bursary Programme.
We invite applications from dynamic students or prospective students who are interested in pursuing studies in specific fields.
Fields of Study:
We are seeking applicants in the following disciplines:
- Engineering: Electrical, Mining, Chemical, Metallurgical, Marine
- Sciences: Actuarial, Computer, Data
- Finance: Accounting, Auditing, Banking
- Humanities: Sound Production, Journalism, Education
- Health Sciences: Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy
- Management Sciences: Supply Chain Management
- Law

Our bursary programme aims to empower students to drive innovation and influence positive transformation in their communities. By providing financial support, we help bursars focus on their education and skill development.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the Richards Bay Minerals Bursary programme, applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Have already been accepted into a recognized university for their field of study.
- Present excellent matric results with high marks in Grade 12.
- Qualify for financial assistance as per NSFAS guidelines.
We especially encourage students with disabilities to apply.
Required Application Documents:
All applications must be submitted online. Failure to include any required document will result in automatic disqualification.
- Certified copy of ID (not older than 3 months)
- Certified Matric certificate or statement of results (not older than 3 months)
- Proof of acceptance from a university
- Proof of bank account
- Certified ID copy of parent/guardian (if applicable)
- Proof of income or payslip of parent/guardian
- Motivation letter detailing your chosen field of study
