About the SARB Economics Winter School
The SARB Economics Winter School is an exclusive week-long training program designed for postgraduate economics students. The event provides an immersive experience that allows participants to engage with local and international thought leaders in economics, while also developing practical skills through action-based learning projects. Students will have the opportunity to engage with key issues in central banking and gain insight into the operations and culture of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).
This is an excellent platform for students to showcase their academic abilities and passion for economics, compete in team challenges, and potentially earn a place in the SARB internship selection process.

Who Should Apply?
We invite applications from postgraduate students who meet the following criteria:
- Have completed or are about to complete a postgraduate degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or Actuarial Science.
- Achieved or expect to achieve an average of 70% or higher in your final year.
- A strong interest in financial services or policymaking.
- Demonstrated academic excellence, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A curious and eager learner, currently unemployed.
Application Requirements:

- Certified copy of your full academic record, including 2025 registered courses.
- Curriculum Vitae (no longer than two pages).
- A motivation research paper (600 words) on how the South African Reserve Bank can modernize payments (MS Word, Arial, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing).
Preference will be given to suitable candidates from designated groups, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
